It was a great bonding experience for us and brought us closer as teammates despite being on opposite ends of the earth. I remember that after the hunt began some of us Skyped her so we could explain what some of the items were. One year I had this sweet girl from Russia on my team who was learning English. Time zones can be a barrier and good communication makes everything move smoother. I’ve been on global teams, you need to freaking talk to your team before the hunt. Yeah… I’ve saved some pretty weird stuff over the years: a broken door knob, a broken desk, foam, a wheelchair (which actually proved useful last year), theatrical costumes and makeup, an umbrella hat… It’s a problem for one month out of the year. I tend to hoard random shit that I might need. Personally, I step over the line of planning. Things like the storm trooper item, the group photo, an item that includes feminine products, at least one drawing/painting, something to do with the mascot, etc. Start gathering things for possible itemsīecause lets face it, there are items you can plan for. Just remember that when you create your accounts you need to keep them secret! Be especially wary with Youtube, it’s important that you keep your videos hidden/secret not private. That way you can come up with something clever. However, when it comes to the twitter handle you can wait until the hunt begins. For example: gishwhes, gishwhes2015, or kale2015. For my team, we have our team name as the username or gmail and then something easy for the password. You might as well create these accounts before the hunt instead of wasting precious kale weaving time. So far every year has been the same: you’ll need a gmail, imgur, youtube, and twitter. ![]() Create a group gmail, imgur, youtube, and twitter. You can ask for help, brainstorm, or initiate a group-wide chat just to get to know each other better. A closed Facebook group will allow you to stay in contact and share photos/videos of items with your group members without breaking the rules. I know most people do this anyway but it never hurts to go over the basics. ![]() But it got me thinking about all the years I’ve done this hunt and I realized that there’s so many things that people can do before the hunt begins! So here’s a few things you can do in preparation of the upcoming week of Misha’s madness. ![]() So my team and I have been busy emailing in preparation of GISHWHES this year. Well, hopefully this post gave you a better idea of what GISHWHES is and I hope you join us in next years hunt.įor more information you can visit the GISHWHES website. ![]() You can get a certificate from the Guinness Book of World Records once the hunt is over and it has been approved by Guinness’ board or committee (or however they approve these things). That’s right, we’ve broken the not only one, but FIVE world records over the past 4 years (with 4 or 5 pending, I believe). Last but not least, GISHWHES is a world record breaking scavenger hunt. But you might be surprised how much fun it is to do the more “crazy” items. O nline.ĭon’t get me wrong though, there are other types of items ranging from acts of kindness (this year it was becoming a bone marrow donor) to Photoshopping items (to make your team look like the Brady Bunch). Instead of finding the items, you’re creating them. I suppose “scavenger hunt” is a bit of a loose term. Now you might be thinking, “Wait, I thought this was an online scavenger hunt. Of course I have neither a 10 year old daughter nor a box of elbow macaroni, but these are the types of things you could expect from GISHWHES. Except instead of instead of sticking elbow macaroni on paper plates, it’s more along the lines of sticking elbow macaroni on your 10 year old daughter while slathered in peanut butter, wearing a sock monkey hat, and holding a mutated stuffed elephant-octopi hybrid that you sewed together this morning. More importantly, we are all artists and have gifts for society no matter what our capabilities or talents.”įor those of you who are reading this at 3 am and need clarification, it’s pretty much a week of arts and crafts. “Gishwhes believes that “normalcy” is overrated and that true “living” can be found hidden under the rocks of community artistic creation and in acts of artistic sublime public performances. Hosted by Misha Collins, GISHWHES brings together thousands of people together from all over the world for a week of pure creation. Well, my friends GISHWHES, otherwise known as the Greatest International Scavenger Hunt The World Has Ever Seen, is a world record breaking virtual scavenger hunt. To start off my blog I should probably answer the most pressing question: what in the world is GISHWHES?
